At Kingwood Children, we care for children from 0 to 12 years and provide a range of rich, engaging, and inspirational resources and activities to encourage their development right up until they are ready to take the next step in their educational journey.
Our philosophy is based on learning and creativity, and through blending our indoor and outdoor classrooms and environments, we are able to successfully create a space where children feel empowered and ready to learn!

A gentle beginning within the family home of founders Claire and Trevor Dancer has grown steadily over the years as more families choose our services. Today we have two large venues; The Kingwood Centre in Uffculme and Muddifords Court in Willand.

When you visit us here at Muddifords, you’ll see firsthand what makes us different!
We purchased this former five star wedding venue in early 2021 to become our second setting and a true haven for childhood. We have fourteen acres of beautiful Devonshire meadowland to play with, giving us endless opportunities to explore and discover the great outdoors.
We also have a large lake where our friendly ducks roam free. The children love to observe the wildlife that lives here – they safely pond dip and visit the boat house when out and about with our practitioners.
Our meadows are diverse and expansive, with immersive nooks and glades where our children can make base camp! We have a large outdoor learning space where we like to cook on the campfire. The stream down by the shepherds' huts and picnic area is a favourite place to rest, play, learn and thrive for all of our children. Many tiny feet cross this bridge each day looking for adventure.
Indoors, housed in our converted traditional barns, stables and thatched roundhouse we provide exceptional provision for children from birth through the school years. Our Kindergarten is open five days a week. Based in the Roundhouse, our Family Hub hosts daily sessions for families, babies and toddlers; venturing outdoors to the Dutch Barn or Woodkin in the warmer weather.
We have outdoor education days and host many events at Muddifords, making the most of all we have to offer our community. Our café is also open to the public giving you the opportunity to explore our grounds for yourself.
We believe that it’s never too early to start learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to learn and grow as soon as they start at our setting.
Our ethos draws inspiration from the natural world, from our many years experiencing the magic of childhood through the hearts and minds of the countless children who have passed through our doors and from the fantastic professionals, pioneering in their field, whom we continue to seek out and work with. Through time, love and the determination to always place children at the forefront of their learning we have developed our own unique approach that is very much “The Kingwood Approach”.
By developing our programs with curriculum experts and childcare specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes early education a success and created a learning program that allows our children to enter school seamlessly.

Our mission is to provide the highest quality childcare in Muddifords, if not the world!
As part of our commitment, we provide all of our children with:
- Healthy chef-prepared meals each day that meet dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, vegan, etc.
- The opportunity to explore the vast surroundings and participate in a range of field trips
- A range of events that allow children events that allow children to learn more about the world around them (career day, guest speakers, etc.)
- A music room that has child-friendly guitars, pianos, etc.
- Outdoor play that teaches little ones how to respect Mother Nature and interact with her in a meaningful way.
- A diverse, all-inclusive environment where all cultures and traditions are honoured and respected.
